Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit is a 12-bed unit whose staff provides for the acute care of both medical and major surgical patients. Medical patients include those on ventilators, sepsis, major endocrine disorders such as diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma and medical cardiac patients such as acute MI, carcinogenic shock (as well as other states of physiologic shock). Interventional cardiac procedure patients with more acute needs such as an Intra Aortic Balloon Pump or Swan Ganz monitoring also would be cared for in the ICU.
